Disclaimer
Information as of: 20 October 20261. Indicative information from public sources
Shati prepares its content from official portals, laws and decisions, and reputable published reports, each dated where shown. We aim to keep it accurate and current, but sources can be incomplete, conflicting or superseded, and the date shown is the date we last checked, not a guarantee that the information is still correct today.
2. Confirm with the competent authorities
Depending on your topic, the competent authorities include, for example:
- Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion: company registration, foreign investment, licences, Invest Easy, the Golden Residency and social-media advertising licences;
- Tax Authority: corporate income tax, VAT, the planned personal income tax and tax depreciation;
- Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning: property ownership, company purchases, usufruct and title registration;
- Royal Oman Police: visas, owner residency and other residence permits;
- Ministry of Information, Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), customs and the relevant municipality, where your activity or location requires it.
3. What this covers
- Tax comparisons. Rates shown are headline or top statutory rates for comparison only. Real tax depends on brackets, allowances, local and state taxes, social contributions, treaties and your circumstances.
- Trade agreements and Made in Oman. Agreement status, rules of origin and tariff schedules change. "Zero or reduced duty" applies to qualifying goods only; confirm treatment for your product with customs and the relevant ministry.
- Residency and visas. Eligibility, thresholds and documents are set and applied by the Royal Oman Police and the relevant ministries and may change without notice. Residency is not citizenship.
- Property. Ownership rules, designated areas, fees and residency links vary by location, project and buyer. Market rents and prices are indicative; listing prices are asking prices, not transactions.
- Creator and influencer licensing. Licensing for paid promotion and media activity involves more than one authority, and parts of the position are not clearly published. Confirm before you start paid work.
- Calculators. The tax-ceiling and buy-vs-rent calculators are simplified illustrations based on stated assumptions. Their results are not quotes, valuations, tax calculations or recommendations.
- Third-party sources. Figures from consultancies, media, listing portals and cost-of-living sites belong to their publishers. We cite them in good faith but do not control or verify them independently.
